At Coreco, we welcome all, no matter your sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, or even terrible taste in music, but this week it’s all about the rainbow, as we take the opportunity to highlight LGBTQ+ pride.
Pride 2017 is set to be a big one, as the LGBTQ+ community have a lot to celebrate. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the decriminalisation of male homosexual acts UK. Check out this video made by UK Parliament, in which Londoners Geoff and Peter talk about their lives before and after the 1967 Sexual Offences Act.
Pride is all about celebrating difference and campaigning against discrimination and inequality, so why not get involved?
Put on your walking shoes, organise your itinerary and be prepared for a weekend full of events.
Get out and see the Parade, Saturday 08 July 1:00pm – 4:30pmthis year will be bigger and better. Top tip though, avoid Oxford Circus and Regent Street as it gets very crowded.
Southwark LGBT Pride – Located in Ivy House pub in Nunhead; there will be a variety of events such as watching an educational, historical documentary. On Thursday 6th July, you can experience the ‘Cabaret of Earthy Delights’ a Russian federation fundraiser, going for £10.00 a ticket. There will be a swimming session in the Glass Mill Leisure Centre in Lewisham on Friday 7th July going for £3.65. All events going on until Sunday 9th July.
UK Black pride – At Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, Vauxhall, why not celebrate different sexualities whilst embracing other types of diversities as well at this event. This mini festival of music, dance, and comedy from Africa, Asia, and the Caribbean. The event is free and starts from 12pm – 9pm.
Queer Theatre – The National Theatre in Waterloo is staging readings of five classic LGBT+ plays, including Mae West’s 1927 drama ‘The Drag’. On Thursday 6th July – Monday 10th July 2017. Tickets are going for £15.00.
