International Women’s Day – Women In The Motgage Industry

Coreco is also proud to be a long-standing signatory of the Women in Finance Charter.

That is because we have set high targets to improve the gender balance within the company and senior management, who are an integral part of the day-to-day running of the company.

We asked one of our Senior Mortgage Advisers, Louise Stevens, some questions around being a woman in our industry. Here’s what she had to say:

What is your name and what is your role at Coreco?

Louise stevens, Senior Advisor at Coreco

What do you think helped you the most to make a career as a woman? What’s the biggest factor that has helped you be successful?

People trust me. Many studies have shown women are more trust worthy, so that helps when working in an industry where trust is the biggest element.

Why do you think companies would benefit from having more women mortgage brokers?

Again, I feel that people feel women are more trustworthy and on top of that, can offer a diversified skillset and different perspectives that can benefit the entire industry.

What advice would you give to the next generation of female mortgage brokers?

Work hard, Act like an equal and stand your ground and speak out if things are not right – A quote from Fern Brady’s book – Strip clubs have bouncers and men know where they stand because of this and if they act out of line they would get thrown out. This shouldn’t be any different in the work place for any situation regarding men or women.

How should women support other women in their organisations?

Be kind, be Helpful and speak up if you feel you notice someone is not being treated fairly!
